Mission Statement
Stand Up Drama aims to promote new and established actors and writers, giving them exposure to industry professionals, via high quality and entertaining monthly shows- London Bites.
About Stand Up Drama
Stand Up drama is a Theatre Production Company that has been producing the monthly show London Bites very successfully since October 2005.
London Bites takes place on the first Thursday and Friday of the month at the Top Floor Bar & Restaurant @ Turnmills in London.
London Bites consists of between 10-12 short pieces of theatre, a mixture of comedy and drama, monologues and duologues, new writing and old, performed by professional actors, all auditioned. The show runs 1hr 45mins with an interval and is compered by a stand up comic. The last 10 minuets of the show is dedicated to our interactive improvisation section “Stand & Deliver” which involves 4 actors from the show playing improvisation games with suggestions from the audience- in a similar vein to Channel 4’s “Whose Line is it Anyway”.
This is not a traditional showcase, where audience sit in rows and the actors pay to perform. This is an exciting and energetic show and a truly unique way of watching great theatre. The informal atmosphere is similar to that of stand up comedy, or cabaret, where the audience sits at tables and can smoke and drink as they wish, the bar is in the same room.
After the show has finished the DJ’s take over for the ‘After Party’.
The After Show Party provides an opportunity for the London Bites performers to unwind and meet their audience and mingle with fellow professionals. The event is also timed to attract a number of actors currently on the West End stage who, having completed their performances, are in need of a social spot free from star-spotters or hangers-on.
Resident Stand Up Drama DJ Clifford Strutter and friends provide a soundtrack of Jazz, sixties and seventies funk, Latin vibes and northern soul until the early hours.
London Bites attracts a large paying audience from within the industry including agents, casting directors, actors, writers and directors as well as the theatre going public.
London Bites’ first year has been very successful, attracting sponsorship ‘in kind’ from The Spotlight, winning Best Producer at 2006 Fringe Report Awards and going from 1 night per month to 2, due to popular demand. For full list of achievements to date see Track Record section.
